ZipCloud is a relatively new cloud storage provider, having only launched in June of 2011. Right at the outset, there are several things that seemed appealing about the service. For starters, ZipCloud is easy to use, and it’s accessible from anywhere via laptop, desktop or mobile device. At $6.95 a month (USD) for unlimited service, it’s also pretty cheap when compared to other providers on the market. The service also features a rather stylish design that maintains consistency across all platforms and interfaces. Continue reading our Zip Cloud review to find out how the service fared when we tested it.
Downloading and Installing ZipCloud
We found it very easy to download and install the ZipCloud service.
To start the download you merely need to click on the Download App bar shown above.
Then double click the icon.
Follow the prompts through the ZipCloud Setup Wizard.
Getting Started with ZipCloud
Once you have completed download and installation, you’ll be presented with the above screen. Choose between the “Backup Documents Folder” option, which is recommended and the “Custom Selection” option, which is recommended only for advanced users of the service. After you’ve chosen your option, click “Next” to begin your backup.
During your backup the user interface window will indicate that the backup is in process.
Once your backup is complete you’ll be presented with this window that informs you that you’ve completed your backup and provides you with the option to upgrade.
Supported Operating Systems
ZipCloud is widely compatible across all major operating systems, including Windows 7, Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Vista (both 32 and 64 bit). It can also be used with Mac OSX 10.5+.
Using Zip Cloud service enables a user to backup and sync all of your files across all of your computers and devices. The service provides for seamlessly syncing files across multiple computers and devices. You can also tailor the service by deciding which files and folders you wish to sync and then choosing the devices you want to sync them to.
There is also a “Drag & Drop” feature that makes backing up your files as simple as dragging and dropping them into your user interface window as shown below.
The ZipCloud backup service is accessible via the web and can be accessed from just about anywhere. You can access it with your laptop or desktop computer. You can also access it with most major mobile devices including the iPhone, the iPad, Android, and Blackberry.
Package Available and Prices
ZipCloud has three available plans: Home, Premium, and Unlimited.
- At just $4.95 a month, the Home plan is the most affordable. It includes 75GB of online storage, is 100% automated, and comes with an anytime money-back guarantee.
- The Premium Plan, which comes with 250GB of storage is the most popular and is still a bargain at just $5.95 a month. It’s also 100% automated, and comes with an anytime money-back guarantee.
- However for just a dollar more a month you can get the Unlimited Plan, which as you might guess, comes with an unlimited amount of storage. At $6.95 a month, it’s also 100% automated and includes the same anytime money-back guarantee that the other two plans do.
- Currently there are also plans to launch a ZipCloud for Business plan that will start at 500GB of storage and be designed to help facilitate collaboration and file sharing between team members.
The ZipCloud anytime money-back guarantee offers a complete 100% refund at any time if, for some reason or other, you decide that you’re not satisfied with the service or just don’t really need to store your files in the cloud.
Sharing files is easy when you use ZipCloud. The service provides you with the option to share your files and folders readily with friends, family members, or colleagues at work. Using Zip Cloud backup, you can invite them to share files by email, Facebook or Twitter. File collaboration is pretty easy with ZipCloud, even when it comes to sharing larger files between multiple users.
To actually share a folder using ZipCloud, all you need to do is select the folder you wish to share and then enter the email addresses of those you wish to share it with in the provided field as shown below. When you have entered the email addresses of everyone you want to share with, just click “Share.”
Security is one of ZipCloud’s better features. All files that are backed up using the service are securely encrypted using the same level of encryption employed by banks and the military.
ZipCloud has an online support center with an email support feature. When we made inquiries via email we typically received a response within a couple of hours. The Zip Cloud website also has a Help Center that contains FAQ, video tutorials, links for the latest downloads, billing info, and other helpful features.
Available Payment Providers
ZipCloud accepts most major payment platforms including Visa, MasterCard, American Express and PayPal.
ZipCloud has a “secret link” on their homepage that can entitle you to a 35% discount.
After conducting our Zip Cloud storage review, we found the free trial version to be a fast, reliable cloud backup service that’s as easy to use as any other that we’ve tried. It also has a friendly, stylish interface that makes it easy on the eyes as well. If you’re looking for a good, affordable cloud backup service, it’s definitely worth considering giving ZipCloud a shot.
Updates and new versions of the software are released frequently and we plan on doing a Zipcloud 2013 review as soon as next year’s version of the software is made available.
